The Stop Start Drill Following on from last week’s coaching subject, using the Gary Player drill to help encourage the correct sequencing on downswing, this week is another drill to help you achieve the same thing but also helping to transfer the weight to the front foot quicker. Firstly you swing the club to the top of the backswing and you can set it into the correct position. You then pause at the top for a few seconds then make your downswing and hit the ball. By pausing at the top of the backswing, this allows you to firstly transfer your weight into your lead foot, which helps the correct leg sequencing, which then leads to the correct turn of the hips and the upper body. If you don’t transfer your weight correctly, you will struggle to hit the ball from being paused at the top. This is a great drill if you feel like you don’t initiate the downswing with your legs or feel like you get the correct weight transfer in the downswing. This is widely used by tour pro’s prior to teeing off, it enables them to calm down the top half of the body avoiding a quick release of the hands, resulting in poor direction and connection, give it a try and let us know what you think. We have a couple of videos to demonstrate the move, sorry there’s no sound but it’s just too windy at present! |
