Coaching news

Course Management – Club selection

In this current dry and hot weather that we are having, the golf ball is travelling further through the air as well as running further along the ground.

Therefore when playing the golf course, bunkers and other hazards that are not normally in play for you with a driver, will now be in play and may have a negative impact on your score.

Therefore it is good practice to consider club selection from the tee, taking into account all factors from the day and not just using the same club you always use.

Groovy

When tour pros are playing in big events, like the PGA Championship this week, they’ll always have relatively new wedges in their bag to maximise their spin, because worn wedges mean less control.

Why do grooves matter?
The grooves are the sole contact point between your ball and the club, imparting backspin to help lift the ball into the air.

How does decay affect you?
All grooves will decay slowly over time, however manufacturers have worked hard to ensure today's wedges are durable and last longer than ever before. Vokey recommend changing your wedges ever 60-70 rounds, or more often if you play out of bunkers.
