Tip of the week
This weeks tip is on two very common faults that I see when people are putting. Putting is a very important part of the game and is something that is not influenced by strength or age, meaning anyone can be very good at it.
The biggest fault that I see with people is them being very anxious to see where the ball has gone. Often before they have hit the golf ball, they have there eyes looking towards the hole and have stood up out of there posture. This makes it very difficult to control the strike on the ball and therefore control distance. The other thing it affects is the swing path, normally when some stands up the swing the putter across the golf ball causing the ball to start offline. Therefore practice keeping your head still until you have finished the stroke and then look up. This will give you more control over direction and speed and result in more putts made.
The other common fault I see is players being very flicky with there hands when swinging the putter. This causes a lot of putter rotation, opens on the backswing and closes on the through swing. This can be very difficult to judge and be consistent. The putter will swing on a slight arc, however the squarer you can keep the clubface during the stroke the easier it will be to start the ball on your intended line. The other thing that using to much wrists can affect is the speed that the putter is travelling when you hit the ball. There is often a sudden injection of pace at the ball, casuing the ball to travel way past the intended target. To control speed and line better, maintain a soft grip (on a scale of 1-10 roughly 4/5) but instead of controlling the stroke with the hands, feel as though you are going to swing the putter with your shoulders. This will give you better control of the club on a regular basis. The stroke that is best for distance control is one that travels the same distance and speed back and through.
I hope this tip helps your putting and if you would like to book a Putting Lesson please contact the Professional Shop.

Coming soon: Callaway Epic Flash This time two years ago, we were sitting here in fascination as Callaway introduced Jailbreak Technology for the very first time. Safe to say that the Epic driver was exactly that - epic - and produced major distance gains for the majority of golfers who were custom fitted for one. Fast forward to now and Callaway is bringing Epic Flash to market, which they say has a 'radically different face design' that will promote faster ball speeds and, in turn, greater distance. |

The last thing anyone wants is to purchase a new set of irons, only to struggle massively when they take to the course with their friends a few days later. Sound familiar? Well, with lots of new products about to land in-store for 2019, here is an iron model that we recommend having a custom fitting for... |
Srixon's Z 585 irons offer game-improvement features in a compact, workable shape that’s ideal for hitting more greens in regulation than ever before - all packed into a very easy-on-the-eye design. The great thing about Srixon's range is that you can mix and match between the different models, allowing you to walk away with the perfect set for your game. Hopefully, you have an idea of which iron you'd like to put in your bag, but it's not until you come and visit us for an enjoyable custom fitting that you'll know which iron and shaft combination performs best for you. We're here to help you play better golf. |
